How to write a neighbor ISO that gets replies

A demand-led ask works when neighbors can scan it in seconds. Here’s how to title, tag, and frame your ISO so the right people respond.

An ISO (in search of) is a wanted post: you say what you need, and neighbors who have it—or know someone who does—can reply. On ISO App, that’s the whole feed. You’re not digging through sale listings hoping something matches; you’re putting the ask first.

Lead with the item, not the story

The best titles read like a label on a shelf: “ISO: Pokémon 151 ETB (sealed)” or “LF: toddler bike trailer, under $80.” Save the backstory for the description. If you’re flexible, say so (“open to similar sets” / “any color OK”).

  • Include brand, model, size, or set name when it matters.
  • Add budget or “make offer” if price is part of the ask.
  • Say new / like new / used if condition affects whether someone replies.

Use hashtags neighbors already search

Tags group your ISO with how people talk on Facebook groups and Nextdoor: #pokemon #babygear #furniture #buynothing for free or gift-friendly asks. A few accurate tags beat a long list of vague ones.

Set expectations for pickup and safety

Mention general area (e.g. “Sunnyvale, can meet evenings”) and whether you’ll travel. When you match in inbox, agree on a public meetup and use the safety tips in our FAQ and neighborhood safety guide—especially for higher-value items.

Post where neighbors are building density

We’re growing the South Bay core (940xx, 950xx, 951xx) first. Greater Bay ZIPs (941xx–949xx) can join too—use travel radius on Browse to see ISOs near you. The more specific your ask, the easier it is for someone nearby to say “I’ve got that.”
